The Doylestown Fire Co. #1 held their annual banquet for members and Auxiliary at the Warrington Country Club on April 2. The annual event honors the membership of the organizations and gives the company the opportunity to recognize members for their service to the community and fire company for the previous year.
The firefighter of the year for 2005, as voted for by the membership of the fire company, is Brett Morris. Morris was also the recipient of the Chiefs award, and was presented his life membership for 20 years of service to the community. The President’s award was presented to Larry Browne.
Grant Castor, a junior member and senior at Central Bucks West, was named Rookie of the Year and was co-recipient of the attendance award with George Erb. Jack Connard was presented with an award for his service as Financial Secretary since 1991.
Service pins were handed out, representing the time dedicated to the fire company. The longest service pin presented was to Robert Miller, who was honored for his 65 years of service to the fire company.Clayton Long was honored for his 55 years, Sam Cramer Sr., for 40 years, and Steve Walther and Brett Albrecht for 25 years of service. Receiving 15 year pins were Dan Hinkle and George Erb, 10 year pins to Jamie Haddon, Kevin Morris, Barbarajean Williams, and husband and wife members Lori and Lynn Westover. Five year pins went to Aaron Soldavin and David Hedrick.
Attendance awards are given to firefighters each year who have the top 4 percentages of responding to calls. The fire company responded to 573 calls, held 34 training drills and 37 meetings for a total of 644 events. Barbarajean Williams responded 40% for 5th place, B. J. Loughnane 45% for 4th Place, Peter Mills 46% for third place and Dennis Loux, Sr. second with 49%. Grant Castor and Geroge Erb were tied for top responders with 50%. These numbers represent a huge amount of time given in service to the community and are only a small representation of the time given by members of the fire company.
