Over 50 Bucks County volunteer firefighters gathered at the County Courthouse for a ceremony honoring firefighters who gave their lives in the line of duty. Families of fallen firefighters were the guests of honor at the remembrance held at the memorial to fallen firefighters and law enforcement officers, which coincided with a ceremony at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD, at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial.
Lead by Robert Hedden of the Falls Township Fire Company and Chief Mark Kramer, president of the Bucks County Fire Chiefs association, the names of all Pennsylvania firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2004 were read. The names of the fallen Bucks County firefighters inscribed on the memorial were also read in honor of their ultimate sacrifice. Bagpiper Hugh McCaughey of Trevose played Amazing Grace on bagpipe and Kramer rang a ceremonial bell as each name was read. Bucks County Commissioner Jim Cawley addressed the gathering. The march to the memorial was lead by the color guards of the Doylestown Fire Company No. 1 and Plumsteadville Fire Company.
