All Volunteer Stations, 19 & 79, Bucks County, PA

The Bucks County Chiefs and Firefighters Association, with the County of Bucks, held a memorial service at the public safety memorial at the Bucks County Courthouse to remember Bucks County firefighters and fire police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice. The ceremony, attended by firefighters from all over Bucks County and the families of the fallen, is held each October in conjunction with the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial ceremony in Emmitsburg, MD, where firefighters who perished in the line of duty are remembered each year. Bucks County Commissioner James Cawley, along with Pa. State Fire Commissioner Ed Mann, were among the dignitaries who addressed the assembled audience. A new name was added to the memorial, Fredrick W. Mayberry, a Silverdale firefighter who died on the very date, Oct. 5, 1983, of a heart attack while training at the fire school in Doylestown. The names of all Pennsylvania firefighters who died in 2007, and all of the Bucks County firefighters and fire police officers were read, and a bell sounded for each. The ceremony closed with everyone in attendance laying a flower at the memorial. Photos by Larry Browne.
