Members of Doylestown Fire Co. #1 were called to the assistance of a trapped canine on Spring Valley Road in Buckingham Township on Saturday morning, September 17, 2005. Lead by Battalion Chief Ed Truman and Lieutenant Jeff Kennedy, firefighters Bill Price, Kevin Morris and Matt Grogan arrived at the residence of Alan and Dolores Herr and found their springer spaniel Buddy, stuck underneath the deck in the rear of the home. As Kennedy tried to keep the pooch calm, the rest of the crew started to remove parts of the decks to better access Buddy and his removal. Once the planks were removed, Buddy was wedged between cross-supports. As Price started to remove some fasteners, the noise caused Buddy to dig himself out and he got out under his own power. Uninjured, he took a few laps around the back yard and was given big hugs from his family. The Herr’s believe that Buddy has been following a groundhog under the deck, but this time he went a little too far and got stuck. |
