All Volunteer Stations, 19 & 79, Bucks County, PA

Box 19-53 was struck at 2:52 PM on November 15, 2006, for a building collapse at the Heritage Towers at 200 Veterans Lane in Doylestown Borough. The 8 story structure is a retirement community with a medical wing. Battalion 79, Paul Kreuter was first on scene and confirmed a building collapse and that the building was being evacuated. Upon further investigation, Kreuter reported to Chief 19, Denny Loux, Jr., that there was an incident on the roof that caused a
crack in the 8th floor roof. The roof cracked when a bolt holding the new structure sheared, dropping a slab of concrete onto the roof below. Crews from Doylestown, Plumsteadville, Warrington, Midway, and Chalfont went floor to floor and made sure that all the residents were out of the apartments in the affected wings. Fire police, police and EMS squads from all over Bucks County responded to assist with the evacuation. Structural engineers responded and examined the situation. After further investigation, the south tower was opened. However, residents in the north tower were not allowed to go back to their apartments. Many residents were temporarily relocated with other area facilities or local family members. Members of the Red Cross were also on scene and provided for those that could not return back to their apartments. Luckily, no one was injured during the incident.
