All Volunteer Stations, 19 & 79, Bucks County, PA

At approximately 6:40am on Tuesday, April 21 2009, The Doylestown Fire Company was dispatched to assist Plumsteadville Fire Company on Box 20-1 at 603 Airport Blvd. Chief 24 Brian DuBree and Battalion 79 Paul Kreuter were first on scene and confirmed heavy smoke showing from a 300x300 commercial structure. Engine 20 was assisted by the crew from Engine 19 and stretched a handline interior on the "C" side of the building. Ladder 79 arrived on scene and went to the roof to begin ventilation. The evacuation tones were dropped as the interior crew reported a very heavy fire load and extreme heat inside and the "CD" corner walls threatened to fall down. All companies withdrew from the building and a new attack was devised. Ground monitors and heavy water lines were placed in service and truck companies went back to the roof for a trench cut to stop the fire spread.  Tower 24 and Ladder 79 had their aerial master streams in service. Due to a lack of hydrants in the area, water tankers from all over the county and some from far away as New Jersey were dispatched to shuttle water to the scene to maintain a constant supply for the crews working to put out the fire. Doylestown crews were back in service by 11:00am, but Plumstead Command was still on scene until 4:30pm. No firefighters were hurt during the fire and the two attached businesses were not harmed. Great job by everyone on scene. Photos provided by John Kalix and Vinay Setty.
