Doylestown Fire Company was dispatched to a
report of a dwelling fire at 756 Sandy Ridge
Rd. at 1:13 PM on Saturday, August 7. Calls
to Bucks County 911 reported an explosion
with fire involving a propane delivery
truck. FM19, Steve Walther, arrived on scene
and found the truck driver burned. Battalion
79 Mike Wood arrived found and heavy fire
from the propane tank in the rear of the
one-story dwelling venting and burning, as
well as a smoke condition from the roof and
established Doylestown command, adding a
tanker to the assignment. Chief 34, Dennis
McGuire, made sure the gas supply to the
still attached hose was shut down, cut the
hose and moved the truck across the street
as medics arrived an attended to the injured
driver. While crews from Engine 19-1 and
Ladder 79 worked from the first floor to
knock down the fire in the attic, Engine 34
provided manpower for the protection line in
the rear to cool the vessel and Station 24
and 29 members opened the roof for
ventilation. The gas was left to vent and
burn off after attempts to shut the flow
were unsuccessful.
Overhaul revealed damage to the roof and
rear windows in the area of the burn, and
some moderate water damage. Central Bucks
Ambulance transported the driver to
Doylestown Hospital, who was then flown to
Temple with burns to his arms and head. CB
Ambulance also provided rehab services on
the fireground.
Canteen 19 provided cold drinks and food.
Also assisting were Warrington, Perkasie,
Warwick and Hartsville. The fire was placed
under control at 2:10 PM. The Doylestown
