Thanks to the generosity of our community partners Discover Doylestown, the fire company has a new large display flag. For many years, Ladder 79 has flown the colors at the Doylestown 5k, and has become an iconic part of the annual Memorial Day weekend race. The fire company flies the flag for many area events, and to honor our fallen. We look forward to flying it this Memorial Day weekend for the 25th anniversary of the Doylestown 5K!
Congratulations to firefighters Rachel Loux and Nick Tartaglia for their selection as 2016 Young Citizens Award winners, through the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce. Rachel is a freshman at Bucks Community College, and Nick a senior at CB West. Rachel has grown up in the company, as she is a third-generation Loux to serve, along with her late grandfather Denny Sr. her father Denny, mother Donna, sister Rebecca and uncle Ed. Nick has been with the company for just over a year and has made an impact with his hard work and positive attitude. They are part of a growing group of young members volunteering their time serving the Doylestown community.
Thanks to everyone who came out and participated in our annual open house on October 7. There were lots of learning and fun activities, great organizations like Red Paw Emergencey Relief Team and the Teddy Bear Clinic from Doylestown Hospital’s Emergency Division, and delicious hotdogs and desserts from our Auxiliary!
We look forward to next year!
The Memorial Day weekend signals the unofficial start of summer for most of the area. In the case of the members of the fire company, it also brought the start of an unusually busy stretch for the all-volunteer membership of the company and surrounding area. Starting on Friday night, May 27, when the members responded to two mutual aid calls for assistance in Warminster and Plumstead Township, to the morning of June 7, activities and calls kept coming.
On May 28, the fire company displayed the colors from Ladder 79 and provided cooling support for the Discover Doylestown 5K race. On the 30th, the members marched and participated in Memorial Day observances. June 1 was our annual Old Timer’s Night, where friends old and new are invited to the firehouse for food and friendship. Early in the morning of June 5, the fire company and area mutual aid companies battled a 2-alarm fire at the Baliwick office park in Doylestown Township until after the sun rose. Monday night members responded to a dryer fire in a laundromat on North Main St. in Doylestown Borough, and Tuesday morning, June 7, a vehicle crash with fire in Doylestown Township in morning rush hour traffic along Rt 611.
Great work by all of our volunteers and mutual aid colleagues, as everyone went home safely. Let’s see what the rest of the summer has for us!
Tickets are $5 during pre-sales, $6 at the door, children 6 to 12 are $4 and children under 6 free.
C’mon out to enjoy a great breakfast and meet the volunteers who serve the community!
By now everyone knows winter is coming. Or here. And winter storm Jonas (not the singing brothers) is near, bringing blizzard watches and packed supermarkets.
We want everyone to be safe, first and foremost. Make sure you have supplies, flashlights, blankets and batteries ready. If you use a generator when the power is out, PLEASE make sure it runs away from the home, and is not inside the structure. Make sure fireplace flues are clear and clean. Listen to official emergency information, and heed the warnings. If the storm does materialize as predicted, please stay inside and only drive if absolutely necessary.
If you’re the hearty type, in good shape and out shoveling, we ask one favor- take care of your local hydrants. The more visible and accessible, the faster we can get to the water in an emergency. If we can’t see it, or if we have to shovel around it to access it, that’s precious seconds lost allowing a fire to grow.
